How we work
Monthly bookkeeping
Every month we categorize transactions, reconcile your bank and credit card accounts, chase anything that does not tie out, and close the period. You get a profit and loss, a balance sheet and a plain summary of what moved. Nothing is left sitting in an uncategorized bucket until March.
Catch up and cleanup
Behind by a few months, or a few years? We take it from wherever it stands. That usually means rebuilding prior periods, correcting misposted entries, removing duplicates, and reconciling back to real bank statements so the numbers you file on are numbers you can defend.
QuickBooks setup and training
QuickBooks is easy to use and easy to set up badly, and early mistakes compound quietly for years. We configure your chart of accounts around how your business actually operates rather than the default template. If you would rather keep the work in house, we will train you or your staff to run it properly.
Reports you will actually read
Reporting is only useful if it changes a decision. Alongside the standard statements we can track the handful of numbers that matter to your business, such as gross margin by service line, job costing, or cash runway, so you can see a problem while there is still time to fix it.
Ready to plan around those numbers? See Tax Consulting.
Common questions
Do I have to use QuickBooks?
It is what we recommend and support best, and it is what most of our clients run. If your books live somewhere else we will tell you honestly whether it is worth migrating or whether we can work in what you already have.
How far behind can I be before it is too late?
There is no point at which it becomes too late. We have rebuilt books from years of unsorted records. The sooner it starts the less it costs, but a long backlog is a normal job for us, not a special case.
Who actually does the work?
An experienced bookkeeper assigned to your account, not a rotating queue. You will deal with the same person month to month, and they will know your business rather than reading it fresh each time.
Can you work with my current tax preparer?
Yes. We will hand over a clean year end package in whatever format they need. Many clients eventually move the return to us as well because it removes a handoff, but there is no requirement to.
